导    读

现在我们开始学习第一册最后一单元，主题为购物，具体有购物建议，购物故事、讨价还价、付款方式和商店广告；与此内容配合，语法安排了基数词和序数词的学习，以免交易中有不识数字之虞(worry)。

         刘先生是旅行社的导游，现在他正给游客比尔先生提购物建议。

              比尔：我想给朋友买点东西，你能给我提点建议吗？

    刘先生：当然可以。你想买点什么？

              比尔：我想买些中国特色的产品。

    刘先生：那么你可以买些中国丝绸产品，象绣花的手帕、桌布或女衬衣等。

              比尔：好主意！那上哪儿去买呢？

    刘先生：我建议你到银街上的第一百货商店去买，离这儿只有两个路口。

              比尔：那儿的东西贵吗？

    刘先生：不贵，第一百货商店的东西价格非常合理。

              比尔：太好了！我还想逛逛书店。

    刘先生：嗯… 在银街和第8街街口的拐角处有一个书店，就是在第一百货商店的西面。

              比尔：多谢。

    刘先生：不客气。

对话二  请问服装柜台在哪里?

比尔先生来到第一百货商店。这是个很大的购物中心，他找不到服装柜台，这时一个售货员走过来帮他。

    售货员：下午好，要我帮忙吗？

      比尔：  噢，是的。我想买一件真丝女衬衣，请问服装柜台在哪里？

    售货员：在二楼。你可以乘这个扶梯上去，服装柜台就在你右边。

      比尔：  谢谢。我还想买一块刺绣桌布，在哪儿买呢？

    售货员：噢，您可以在四楼的工艺品柜台买到。

      比尔：  谢谢你。

    售货员：不客气

短文  购物的去处

在美国，人们是根据各自的经济条件选择不同的商店购物的。有钱人常去大型购物中心购物，但不少人通常到折价商店、廉价商店或超市买东西，因为这些商店的东西不那么贵，价格也较为合理。有些人更愿意买二手服装、家具或家庭用品，因为这些二手货的价格合理，而且质量也不错。

    许多商店的各种商品在节假日期间都降价出售，降价幅度是九折到五折，因此在节日期间购物是个好办法。

Main points of the text

Dialogue A

1. Now he is giving shopping advice to Bill, one of his customers.

give sth. to sb. 或give sb. sth. 是双宾语结构。其它类似的词组如：show(出示) / pass(传递) / hand (交给) / teach(教授) / offer(提供) / sell(卖) sth. to sb. 或 ~ sb. sth. Please look at P65 for more information. 详见第65页的语法内容。

2. — Could you give me some advice?

— Sure.

sure: certainly, of course

3. the First Department Store 第一百货商店

first是序数词，用的时候前面要加定冠词the。

4. The prices are very reasonable.

这里面隐藏着一个词组“合理的价格”reasonable prices。

常用的与价格有关的表达：

1)评论价格高低：

workable/attractive/competitive/popular/ favourable / low price

可行的/有吸引力的/有竞争力的/通行的/优惠的/低廉的价格

in // out of line with the market price 与市价相/不符；high高价 be on the high side 偏高

2)常与价格一起使用动词：

上升：go up, increase, rise, advance；下降：come down, fall, drop；提价：raise, improve, lift；降价：cut/bring down, reduce

3) 其它表达：

cost/market/bottom price成本/市场/最低价；be worth the price是值这个价钱的；agree upon a price议定价格

Dialogue B

1. They are on the second floor.

second是序数词“第二”，“第三”是third。Please look at P134 - 135 for further explanation. 详见第134 - 135页本课的语法内容。the second floor means“三楼”according to British English because the British people call “一楼”ground floor and “二楼”the first floor. In American English the second floor just means“二楼”.

2. You go up by this escalator, and the clothes counters are on your right.

注意介词的用法。

3. (Bill)I also want to buy an embroidered tablecloth.

an embroidered table cloth 一块绣花台布

embroidered第一个字母发元音，故前面的不定冠词用an。

Passage

1. …, people may choose different shopping places according to their economic conditions.

  …, people may go to different places to buy things according to how much money they have. 人们是根据各自的经济条件选择不同的商店购物的。

2. wealthy people: rich people, people who have a lot of money

3. Some people prefer to buy second-hand clothing, furniture or other household items, because they are in good condition and the prices are very reasonable.

  second hand: used 旧的，二手的

  in good condition: good enough to be used 状况良好的

  in good health: healthy, strong 身体健康

4. Many stores will have various items on sale during holiday seasons.

   When holidays come, a lot of stores and shops will sell many of their commodities at prices lower than usual. 许多商店的各种商品在节假日期间都降价出售。

   on sale: have a sale 降价出售,大甩卖

eg. The shop is having their hats on sale this week. 此店本周减价销售帽子。

A: Excuse me. Could you tell me where I can find the leather belt?

B: Sure. Take this escalator(自动扶梯) over there down one floor.

B: Certainly. What can I do for you?

A: I’m looking for a leather belt for my husband(丈夫).

B: Do you know what size he wears(穿戴)?
